loewyn Some great piano lines and tasty dollops of mellotron. Reminds me of stuff like Porcupine Tree & Pineapple Thief, proggy but not just imitating old Yes, complex enough to be interesting but simple enough to be approachable. Favorite track: The Tree.

In long hot days of slow unwinding Sunset fire through the sliding door The stranger's voice is sandy dark and fatal And I feel his words come writhing from my throat In the endless afternoons of slow unwinding Thunderclouds come riding on the wind My double stalks the backyards and the alleys I climb into his warm and waiting skin The needle cries home The needle cries home In cold gray nights of slow unwinding Winter hangs and will not let its breath It scrapes me red and raw to hear you crying Waiting out the fire in my bed The needle cries home The needle cries home

Well I'll tell you what I long for The days of questioning And the simplifying filter Of total poverty And the nights of gaping wonder I could lie awake and dream Of the chance of something greater That now I know will never be Well I'll tell you what I long for The days of disarray Endless drunken evenings And long hung over days When my boundaries were weaker And I was proud to share a space With poets and with junkies With the mad and the brave Well I'll tell you what I long for The days when I could dream Of the chance of something greater That now I know will never be

The Tree 04:30
I want to do everything And never feel anything I don't want to feel Remember you if it suits me Put you away if the world supplies other things Dream what you see fit to dream If it can't come true, that wouldn't kill me But I ache and thirst for real surprise I know there must be something, anything Now, as time nags on And years go dry The tree hangs fat With unlived lives Wilt in the pressure of being loved Burst when the moment comes that you are free But will we rot in separate graves Or burn together within the very same fire?

She recalls my pleasures and the far-off sins She knows the old addictions and the long-shed skins And though we're happy And though we're in love And life is blandly inoffensive She recalls the stories and the long-gone ways She recalls my pleasures and I recall her pains If I don't know you I don't know anyone I don't know you, and I don't know anyone As the days go on we find our nails Are bit to a bleeding crescent Minds leap from the sleeping present For nobody, no one can be And nobody, no one can do Everything for anybody

Sunset 06:38
And if I'd ever caught the fire Would I be in your arms tonight? Found the way to self direction Made a legacy or life My blood runs parallel with yours My tears fall parallel with yours And if I'd ever learned to matter Would I be in your arms tonight? The world all bound in myth and wire That glowed in dreams of flaming white My blood runs parallel with yours My tears fall parallel with yours And how I hate to, and never meant to, hasten the days See the years in panorama spiral away And to smother bewildered in the onrushing night Under secrets that bind us into unflinching lies And I know so well these things are all an illusion That I have loved for all these years, and bear me on today But I know as well they are the things that make my life worth living If I believe in anything, it's the glittering lie

And in a way it’s a childish thing To be so easily drawn away We should all be a little ashamed If our pleasures are simple But I want the world to gleam With the magic of the pervert’s eye To feel sexual energy Where someone else would feel nothing Your beauty makes me feel weak and small But somehow also affirms my life The way you brush your hair away When you draw back into your mind Put your hand upon the stove Well you callus when you burn If you toughen yourself enough Soon the burn will mean nothing Slow days, I’ll fade away, each of you beat in my heart Sun-glazed, gently ashamed, each of you beat in my heart Gone gray, dreamed in malaise, each of you beat in my heart Unnamed, long ago betrayed, like burrs you will cling to my heart
8.
And if the voyeurs are all impotent then may they wank their lives away And they will watch you in your ecstasy, and they will dream to take your place And I will dream that I am there with them, and I will dream that you are me And I will dream that I am powerless, and I will dream I'm forced to see Feel a life evaporate Beneath the decadent imperative The sympathetic primitive Choices fall and chances fade Within the decadent imperative Infinite and sedative And if your pleasures are pedestrian, then your mind will drift away Behind the glazing eyes of philistines, across the gaps of empty days But if you take the dragon's cloaca, and invade him from behind Then you can ride a stream of shitting fire across a gush of ruined time Feel a life evaporate Beneath the decadent imperative The sympathetic primitive Choices fall and chances fade Within the decadent imperative Infinite and sedative

The Long Now 05:58
In glowing autumn nights that now seem far away We drove out to watch the bombs on the desert plain The way the sunlike tower of fire, would bloom and then We'd walk upon the sculptured glass where the sand had been And the hands move once a year while the ancient waste decays With every tick the monument repeats a single thing We were here and now we're gone, we were here and now we're gone, we were here and now we're gone

about

The first EBES album, or the last, depending how you count it. Written mid-2017 and re-recorded 2024. Prog ambition on an intimite scale, rough around the edges but charmingly so. Elaborate piano melodies moody synth dominate the soundscape; lyrics strive to balance the emotive and the cerebral. Post-punk rawness of the vocal style keeps things grounded.

about

Electric Brain Electric Shadow Olympia, Washington

Electric Brain Electric Shadow marries the compositional sophistication of progressive rock with the textural richness of ambient music, the dynamics of post-rock, and the emotional vulnerability of alternative and post-punk. The resulting sound is complex yet accessible, attentive to details of sound and arrangement, and evocative of thoughtful melancholy. ... more
